The latest update to PluralEyes, which syncs video and audio clips for dual-system audio and multi-camera productions, now allows Final Cut Pro X editors to sync and output multicam clips quickly, and automates multi-camera syncs. Existing PluralEyes for FCP customers can upgrade to PluralEyes for Final Cut Pro X free of charge.  www.singularsoftware.com

GenArts Sapphire Edge has also been updated for Final Cut Pro X.  Sapphire Edge gives access to the same visual effects as in GenArts Sapphire, but has a trimmed down interface with tools and controls that aim to limit design complexity and production time. The application includes effect-based transitions and visual browsing, plus tools editors can use to preview looks from the large library at FX Central of over 350 presets looks on their footage and use them as supplied or modify as required. www.genarts.com

Noise Industries has released several plug-ins on FxFactory 3 that are compatible with FCP X.
XEffects Tech Transitions are 28 hi-tech-style effects made specifically for Final Cut Pro X that can save time building numerous layers and mattes. All have adjustable settings and use GPU processing within FCP X for previews and rendering. The plug-in makes use of temporal or retiming of video within the effect, and has automatic repeaters to step or duplicate action on the cut.

The freeze versions of the effects hold the last frame of the outgoing media and the first frame of the incoming media, performing the transition between the two stills. These can be used for emphasising movement and, as transitions, the freezes will automatically update when the effect is slipped, duration changed or copied and pasted.

Viewfinder HUD applies screen overlays to footage to simulate binoculars, weapon sights, old cameras and other gadgets. The three filters in the package include Binoculars, Target and Viewfinder On Screen Display, compatible with Final Cut Pro, Motion and After Effects.

Binoculars comprises guides and numeric settings to simulate unusual binocular viewfinders with the ability to adjust image viewing functions through binoculars, including zoom and focus. The Target filter simulates the look of a radar screen or target viewfinder, and can move around the screen following the focal point, emphasizing the main focus of the shot. Viewfinder OSD will add the effect of looking at footage through a familiar video or still camera viewfinder with on-screen display of data and information. All the filters come with customizing options and combinations for creating original HUDs and viewfinders.

The Grunge Collection is from Luca Visual FX with four visual effects tools, Grunge Effects, Film Leaders, Sprocket Slip, and Light Leaks, designed to add a grungy feel to images using gritty textures and transitions, lighting and film burns. The group of tools is also available as individual downloads, and is compatible with Final Cut Pro, Motion and After Effects.

Grunge Effects consists of Grunge Overlays, which are animated textures, and Grunge Transitions, textures designed to be used mainly as transitions. Film Leaders creates leaders that complement projects. It has 50 presets with which editors can control look and feel of the leaders and adjust various font characteristics. Sprockets Slip is used to recreate the effect of a sudden slip of a rolling film, revealing the loose perforations, and also comes with presets plus controls and light leaks to give the images a rough, gritty look. Although light leaks originate as a camera flaw, the Light Leaks tool can be used to add this type of vintage look to video without using stock footage. To customise the look, users adjust the geometry and stylization or apply extra filters.  www.noiseindustries.com
