DigiSPAA Reveals 2011 Finalist Digital Filmmakers

The DigiSPAA digital film competition’s finalists include a dysfunctional couple, a horror comedy, 
a low budget thriller and a psychological drama. The winning film will be screened on the Movie
Extra channel.

| DigiSPAA has announced the finalists for its seventh annual competition, run by the Screen Producers Association of Australia. This year the competition received 25 entries, the work of independent filmmakers from Australia and New Zealand. Of these, four were chosen to compete for the award of $15,000 cash, $20,000 worth of post-production, a screening on the Movie Extra channel, and a return airfare and free registration to the CineMart International Film Festival Rotterdam, Holland. Antony I. Ginnane, co-curator of DigiSPAA said that the entrants in DigiSPAA continue to be diverse and varied in scope and scale, and that while all 25 entrants this year show wit and sensibility, the four finalists stood out and demonstrated distinctive cinematic talent. |

| ‘Vanished’ is a tense, edgy thriller about a parent seeking revenge for the kidnapping of a six year old girl, written, directed and produced by Michael Adante, with DP David Williams on his EX3 using both tripod and Steadicam. ‘Passengers’ takes place in a traffic jam in Los Angeles, telling the story of the complete breakdown of a marriage on a single evening, written and directed by Michael Bond and shot on a Panasonic P2 HD camera by Laszlo Baranyai ACS HSC. |

| ‘Line Disconnect’ is a goofy making-of style documentary about the production of a horror film, ‘Honeymoon Panic!’ in Australia by Japanese cult director, Toru Kitayama. It was written, directed and produced by Joseph Wong with Camera Operator Kei Yokogawa. ‘10 Metres’ centres on the drama of a university student who is drugged and has a bomb strapped to his chest by a vengeful classmate, written and directed by Rory Noke, co-directed by Tim Smith, and produced by Michael Clarkin and Rory Noke. The finalist films will be available for viewing online through VEODigiSPAA and the winning film chosen by a panel of judges including Antony Ginnane, film producer Daniel Scharf and SPAA Production Executive Owen Johnson. The winner will be announced at the SPAA Awards Dinner on 14 November. www.spaa.org.au. |
