CalDigit USB 3.0 Storage Speeds Apple MacBook Pro

CalDigit’s USB 3.0-capable AV Drive and the VR2 work with the USB 3.0 facility in the new 
Apple Macbook Pro, bridging Thunderbolt and the previous Firewire 800 interfaces.
| Apple’s release of the new Macbook Pro includes the addition of USB 3.0 and Intel Ivy Bridge processors. USB 3.0 bridges the gap between Thunderbolt and the earlier Firewire 800 native Mac interfaces, and can transfer at substantially higher speeds. | |

| The AV Drive is a single drive device equipped with dual Firewire 800 ports and a single USB 3.0 port. It can reach transfer speeds up to 160 MB/s and has optimized Firewire 800 ports, designed to maximize the throughput of the Firewire bus at speeds of 85MB/s. The AV Drive also uses an ambient temperature controlled smart fan that turns on only when necessary. Its USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 connectivity can help transition from an older Mac to one of the newer systems, and is available in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB capacities. | |

| The VR2 is a user-configurable hardware RAID system capable of read speeds up to 254 MB/s in RAID 0 and 160 MB/s in RAID 1, according to CalDigit. The user can set the device either for speed or protection. With USB 3.0, eSATA, dual Firewire 800 and Firewire 400 interfaces, the VR2 can be useful for many applications. It also has an LCD screen and LED indicators showing drive status and activity. The VR2 also has an ambient temperature controlled smart fan to keep temperatures and noise levels to a minimum. The VR2 is available in 2TB, 4TB, 6TB,and 8TB capacities. CalDigit advices that Thunderbolt drives will be available soon. www.caldigit.com |
