and classic film restoration.

As well as purchasing LightSpace CMS with an X-Rite Hubble probe, owner and colourist Vince Narduzzo also contracted Light Illusion to provide a film profiling service, which would accurately profile the film project’s chemical lab processing facility. Within LightSpace CMS, the film lab profile data is combined with the digital projection profile generated at Narduzzo Too to build an accurate film calibration Look Up Table. This process matches their digital projection display to that of the final film deliverables.

The need for accurate film based calibration arose when Narduzzo Too was awarded the contract to grade ‘Hysteria’, a period dramatic comedy shot on 35mm film, delivering to film, DCP and HD. Being able to calibrate accurately to the final film deliverable would be important to the project, and being able to control the generation of the look for the DCP master would keep colour control within the facility, providing colour guarantees to Narduzzo Too’s client.

“By profiling the film lab used for the final celluloid deliverable film print, as well as Narduzzo Too’s digital projection environment, we were able to generate accurate print emulation LUTs and convert them to the different colour spaces required for all the digital deliverables,” said Steve Shaw at Light Illusion. LightSpace CMS is one of several calibration systems Light Illusion has developed for use in digital imaging, including MatchLight IMS, SpaceMan ICC, LightDensity XYZ and Alexicc. www.narduzzotoo.com  www.lightillusion.com
